I was going to share a link to a site that published short works on coffee mugs, but my Google searches came up empty. I guess they went out of business. I wanted to find out how many words fit on a mug in order to know what word count to go by should I decide to give it a try.
Anyhoo, one of the searches got me a WikiPedia page on Flash Fiction, and from there I found a WikiPedia page on Drabbles. Drabbles are 100 words, and so I did a search for drabbles on a mug, but got nowhere with it.
I'm betting that drabbles are the perfect length for a coffee mug, and thought I'd share this information here for anyone else who might like the idea of putting their fiction on coffee mugs. Or other products with small surfaces, such as journals, etc. Flash fiction would probably work on a T-shirt. 500 words for sure on a 10x10 inch template. Maybe even a 1,000? I'd have to play around with it to be sure.
I don't know how popular short fiction is on other types of products, or how much money doing this could generate, but I guess it could be worth looking into. Feel free to add more info on this discussion if you've had experience with doing this, or have more info than I've shared on this subject.
Also during this search, I came across this site:
